Vol. 178 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Loughshinney (Dublin) National School.

103.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state the reason for delay in having extension work commenced at Loughshinney national school; whether the proposed work has been sanctioned by his Department; and if he will indicate the approximate date on which such work will be commenced.

As the County Medical Officer of Health required that water closets with a septic tank system of sanitation be installed at Loughshinney National School, the original scheme of extension, which provided for new filter bed latrines had to be revised. It was necessary, in connection with the revised scheme for the Reverend Manager to arrange for the provision of a water supply by sinking a well on the site; to acquire a plot of ground for the septic tank; and to furnish title to my Department for the vesting of the plot by an official lease. All these arrangements caused considerable delay before my Department were in a position to sanction the grant.

Working drawings are now being prepared by the Commissioners of Public Works as a preliminary to the invitation of tenders. I cannot say at present when work on the extension scheme will be commenced but every effort will be made to expedite the case.
