Vol. 178 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Retirements from Garda.

20.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will state the number of Gardaí under 40 years of age who have retired from the force in each of the past three years; and what inducements are being offered to trained men to remain in the force.

During the 3-year period ended 30th November, 1959, the number in each year was: 1957, 75; 1958, 74; 1959, 46.

Among the inducements offered to trained men to remain in the Force are a progressive incremental scale including long-service increments; security of tenure; prospects of promotion; and a superannuation scheme which enables them to retire on pension, should they so desire, at a relatively young age.
