Vol. 178 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Stocks of Oats and Barley.

31.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is satisfied that following the export of oats and barley over the past four months there are adequate stocks of both in the country.

I am satisfied that there are sufficient stocks of coarse grain in the country to meet current requirements.

As barley exports are being offset by maize imports, the overall supply position is not affected by the import/ export arrangements. The question of importing additional supplies of coarse grain to meet the full requirements up to next harvest is at present under consideration.

As regards oats. there is no official control on the marketing, the price or the export of that crop. The general position immediately after the harvest was, however, relieved by exports, and users have already been warned to procure their full requirements from home sources.
