Vol. 178 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rural Electrification Canvass in Galway Areas.

40.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he will state when the latest canvass was carried out in the townlands of Upper Camus, Lower Camus, Lettermuckoo and Kinvara for connection with the rural electrification system; whether the Electricity Supply Board intend to give supply to the people there; and, if so, when.

I am informed by the Electricity Supply Board that there has been no change in the position regarding the selection for development under the Rural Electrification Scheme of the Camus rural area, which includes the townland of Upper Camus, Lower Camus, Lettermuckoo, and Kinvara, since the similar question by the Deputy answered on 23rd October, 1957.

A further canvass of the area was commenced in April last and will be completed at the first available opportunity. The area will then be further considered.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he will state when the latest canvass for rural electrification was carried out in the townlands of Derrartha, Bealadangan, Lettermore, Tiernee and Lettermullen and the percentage of acceptances; and when he expects that these townlands will be given supply.

I am informed by the Electricity Supply Board that the townlands of Bealadangan, Lettermore, Tiernee and Lettermullen are included in the Lettermore rural area which was canvassed in April last, but was not then selected for development as the returns for the area did not compare favourably with those of other areas awaiting development in the Board's Galway District. The percentage of acceptances at the latest canvass was 60.6. I am informed by the Electricity Supply Board that Derrartha is part of the Carraroe Rural Area which was developed under the Rural Electrification Scheme in 1957 and that the householders in the area refused to accept supply at that time.
