Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Donegal Railways: Position of Staff.

47.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if, in respect of the closing of County Donegal Railways he will indicate the arrangements which will be made in regard to present staff of that company with special reference to (a) future employer, (b) conditions of re-employment and (c) possibility of redundancy.

The closing of the railway lines operated by the County Donegal Railways Joint Committee will not involve a change in the constitution of the undertaking or in the conditions of employment of the workers. Changes of this kind could only be brought about by means of legislation.

In accordance with the provisions of Section 9 of the Railway Act 1933 the Joint Committee will be responsible for the compensation of employees who may be rendered redundant by reason of the closing of the lines.
