Vol. 178 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Division of Kilsallaghan (Dublin) Estate.

82.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state in respect of the Carter Estate near Kilsallaghan, (a) how many persons received a portion of the estate some years ago, (b) the number of local applicants who received an allocation of land on the estate, (c) the number of uneconomic holders who were accommodated, (d) the number of families who received allotments in exchange for land resumed by the Land Commission and the acreage of land surrendered by them and allotted to them, and (e) the number of tenants who received portions of the estate and who have since disposed of their interest as owners and tenants; and whether any portions of the estate were acquired by non-nationals since the original allocation took place.

Replies to the various parts of the Question are as follows:—

Apart from sites allocated for school and cottages—

(a) Eleven persons (including joint tenants) participated in eight allotments.

(b) Three local applicants got allotments.

(c) There were no uneconomic holders in the vicinity of this estate.

(d) A total of 359 acres was allotted to five families who vacated 318 acres by way of exchange and an additional 267 acres by way of sale.

(e) Transfers of allotments are controllable, under the Land Acts, only up to vesting in allottees. Within the period of control for these allotments, only one of them was disposed of by the allottee. This allotment was not transferred to a non-national. The L.C. are not in a position to give particulars of private sales of vested holdings.
