Vol. 179 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cheekpoint (Waterford) Afforestation Scheme.

89.

asked the Minister for Lands when it is proposed to start the afforestation scheme at Cheekpoint, County Waterford, which has been under consideration by his Department for a number of years.

To date, the Forestry Division of my Department has acquired two areas for afforestation purposes in the Cheekpoint district. One area of 23 acres at Raheen was planted in 1958. The second area, which comprises 89 acres in the townland of Castletown, was taken over last October and it is intended to plant it in the 1960/61 planting season.

Negotiations are in progress for the purchase of three other areas comprising 92 acres in the district and there are a number of cases at the preliminary stages of investigation. All these cases will be expedited as much as possible.
