asked the Minister for Justice whether Mr. Skorzeny has asked for permission to reside permanently in Ireland.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Permit for Permanent Residence in Ireland.
The person referred to in the Deputy's question has informed my Department that it is his intention, if permitted, to take up permanent residence in Ireland at some time in the future—probably not for several years—and he has formally applied for permission to do so.
Before the Minister grants this man a permit to reside in this country, may I take it he will make certain that this man does not intend to use Ireland as a base for furthering any Nazi or neo-Nazi resurgent movements in Germany or anywhere else? It is generally understood that this man plays some part and, if so, he should not be allowed to use Ireland for that purpose.
As far as I am concerned, there is no evidence of any activities on the part of this individual such as suggested by the Deputy. Naturally, all these things will be taken into consideration on the granting of such a permit.
