Vol. 179 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Wages of Drainage Workers.

26.

asked the Minister if he will now consider increasing the wages of drainage workers employed under the auspices of his Department so as to bring their pay into line with that of comparable workers employed by other authorities.

Workers employed by the Office of Public Works on Arterial Drainage Schemes are paid uniform rates which are not directly related to rates paid by other authorities. Increases in wages have recently been granted to foremen, gangers, tradesmen, drivers, storekeepers, works clerks, watchmen and boys. The rates payable to labourers and classes paid differentials over labourers' rate are at present under consideration and a decision will, I hope, be reached shortly.
