Vol. 180 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rehabilitation of Juvenile Delinquents.

16.

asked the Minister for Justice what facilities are available in the State for the rehabilitation of juvenile delinquents.

I presume that the Deputy is referring to the rehabilitation of delinquents under 21 years of age on their discharge from prison or from St. Patricks Institution, North Circular Road, Dublin, which accommodates youths sentenced to Borstal detention and convicted prisoners under 21 years of age who are transferred to the Institution from Mountjoy or Limerick Prison. There are three organisations in existence for aiding and assisting in the rehabilitation of these persons. The Guild of St. Philip of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, and the Discharged Protestant Prisoners' Aid Society deal with discharged prisoners. The St. Patricks Welfare Association is concerned with youths discharged from St. Patricks.
