Vol. 180 No. 7

Written Answers. - Workers Employed by Department of External Affairs.

48.

asked the Minister for External Affairs if he will state the number of male workers (excluding clerical workers) in receipt of wages of between £4 10s. and £7 per week employed by his Department, and the total wages so paid in 1959; and if he will indicate the categories of workers so employed.

I assume that the Deputy's Question relates to male workers (excluding clerical workers) who are employed by my Department within the State.

There are at present no male workers employed by my Department at a wage of under £7 per week. Up to the 14th December 1959 there were four male workers who were in receipt of a wage under £7 per week. On that date the minimum wage for the category of employee concerned was increased to a figure higher than £7 per week.

The total amount paid in wages to the four indoor messengers mentioned in the calendar year 1959 was £961.
