For years up to 1948/49 inclusive the allowance in question was £45. For 1949/50 and subsequent years the allowance has been £100.
It would require Finance Bill legislation to increase the allowance and the Deputy will appreciate that I cannot indicate in advance what proposals my Budget Statement may or may not contain.
