Vol. 180 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Increase of Social Welfare Pensions.

6.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare when it is proposed to increase old age, widows' and orphans' and blind pensions.

The rates of old age, blind and widows' non-contributory pensions were increased as recently as August last under the provisions of the Social Welfare Act, 1959. No further increases are contemplated at present.

Might I ask the Parliamentary Secretary to direct his attention to the remarks of the Taoiseach on the Vote on Account where he requested sympathetic consideration for their interests?

I shall take note of the Deputy's remarks.

And do nothing about it.

Perhaps the Parliamentary Secretary has not read the Taoiseach's speech. Will he tell us that he reads the Taoiseach's speeches?
