Vol. 180 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Pensions of Former Civil Servants and State Employees.

7.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will consider increasing the pensions of lower grade retired Civil Servants and other former State employees whose present pensions are inadequate to meet the existing cost of living.

As indicated in my reply on the 15th March, 1960, to Deputy Tierney, further pension increases for any class of State Pensioners, which would require special legislation, must depend on whether moneys can be made available for this purpose and this cannot be decided until various Budgetary matters have been considered.

I take it the Minister has the matter under consideration.

He will take note of it.

Unless the money is there, it cannot be considered.
