Vol. 180 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Replacement of Mayo Bridges.

14.

asked the Minister for Finance when it is proposed to repair or replace the existing bridge at Lenarevagh, Glenamoy, County Mayo, which in its present state constitutes a danger to the public.

15.

asked the Minister for Finance when it is proposed to repair or replace the existing bridge over the Glenamoy River west of Glenamoy church.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle I propose to take questions numbers 14 and 15 together. I assume the bridge the Deputy has in mind is the footbridge over the Glenamoy River near Martin McDonnell's house in the townland of Lenarevagh, and approximately half a mile southwest of Glenamoy Church. The proposal is not a suitable employment scheme, and a full cost grant could not be made available for it. I should add that, while I have no responsibility for the repair of this bridge, I am prepared, as already indicated to the beneficiaries, to consider the proposal under the Rural Improvements Scheme, if an application under that scheme is submitted and the beneficiaries are prepared to contribute towards its cost.
