Vol. 180 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Report of Company Law Reform Committee.

26.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he proposes to introduce in the immediate future legislation to implement paragraphs 143 and 182 of the Company Law Reform Committee's Report dealing with directors' fees and consolidated accounts, respectively.

The matters referred to will be included in the legislative proposals which are in course of preparation and which will deal with the recommendations made by the Committee on Company Law reform. For the reasons which I mentioned in the course of my reply on the 10th February, 1960, to a question by the Deputy on this subject, I am unable to indicate when it will be possible to introduce the Bill.

Is the Minister aware that the Taoiseach, when Minister for Industry and Commerce, in April of 1959, said that a measure would be introduced within the year? The reference is volume 174, column 638. Will the Minister tell the House why he has gone back on that undertaking?

There has been no going back on the undertaking. This Government have kept the Parliamentary Draftsman's office pretty busy and the office has also suffered some wastage of personnel.

I accept that as an answer.
