asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state the amount of butter exported in the years 1955-56, 1956-57, 1957-58, 1958-59 and 1959-60, respectively, the amount of subsidy paid (a) out of the Exchequer and (b) by levies in each such year, the estimated amount of butter to be exported in 1960-61 on the basis of which the Book of Estimates was framed and the amount of (a) subsidy and (b) levies estimated to be paid thereon.

As regards the second part of the Question, when the estimate of expenditure for 1960/61 was framed, it was impossible to estimate the quantity of butter likely to be available for export or the price which would be obtained. The provision must, therefore, be regarded as an interim one, pending the establishment of the Irish Dairy Produce Board as envisaged in the White Paper of December, 1959, on Export Marketing of Irish Agricultural Produce.
