Vol. 181 No. 5

Elections Bill, 1960—First Stage.

Leave granted to introduce a Bill entitled an Act to make special provisions in relation to the taking of the polls at certain elections.—(Minister for Local Government).

Could the Taoiseach say what is the general purpose of this Bill?

The Minister for Local Government will answer that.

The purpose of the Bill is to facilitate the holding of the by-election in the Carlow-Kilkenny area together with the local elections on the same day, if it is so thought fit.

I thought it would be another referendum Bill.

One never knows.

Second Stage ordered for Wednesday, 11th May, 1960.
