Vol. 182 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Parliamentary Secretary: Cost of State Car and Staff.

18.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Justice whether a State car with Garda drivers has been assigned to the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Justice; and, if so, the cost of such car, the salaries of the Gardaí assigned as drivers, and the estimated cost per year of providing such car.

A car has been provided and the drivers assigned are paid in accordance with the rates prescribed by the Garda Síochána Pay Order, 1960.

With regard to the other matters raised, I would refer the Deputy to my replies of 22nd March to his questions on these subjects.

19.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Justice the number of civil servants assigned to duties in the office of the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Justice, their status, duties and salaries and any allowances paid to them in addition to the salaries appropriate to their rank.

The number of civil servants assigned to the office of my Parliamentary Secretary is two—an executive officer who performs the duties of Private Secretary and a confidential shorthand-typist who performs the duties of that grade. The executive officer's salary is £911 a year and he receives in addition the normal Private Secretary's allowance of £106 a year. The shorthand-typist's salary is £482 a year and she receives the usual allowance of £35 a year while serving in the Parliamentary Secretary's Office.
