Vol. 182 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Repair of Kerry Bog Roads.

26.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he will sanction the issue of a special grant sufficient for the necessary and urgent repairs to the bog roads used for transport of turf by people who cut large quantities in an endeavour to maintain the supply of 30,000 tons per annum required by the turf generating station at Deelis, Caherciveen, County Kerry.

Limited sums were allocated from the National Development Fund from which grants are regularly made for repairs to bog roads to facilitate delivery of turf to the Caherciveen and the other three 5 MW. electricity generating stations. The approved procedure requires persons who will have turf available for delivery to the station over bog roads requiring repairs to make application in the first instance to the Supervisor at the generating station.

I have already approved, this year, a number of grants in the vicinity of Caherciveen station. Other applications in respect of this area are under examination.
