Vol. 182 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Curracloe (Wexford) Forestry Development.

41.

asked the Minister for Lands what land is available to him for forestry development at Curracloe, County Wexford: and whether he will acquire further land for planting.

There is no reserve of land available for planting in the Curracloe area. The Forestry Division is dealing with 23 offers of land for afforestation totalling 527 acres in the area. Agreement to purchase has been reached with five owners in respect of 265 acres and title is in course of clearance. Negotiations are in progress for the purchase of three other areas totalling 63 acres. The remaining cases are at the preliminary stages of investigation. All these cases and any other offers that may be received in the district will be dealt with as quickly as possible.

I am sure, therefore, the Minister will speed up the acquisition and the final settlement of these lands to ensure continuity of employment for the men concerned.

We are anxious to finalise this matter to provide for continuity of employment for all concerned.
