Vol. 183 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Demolition of Rathfarnham Derelict Cottages.

12.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he has yet received from Dublin Corporation plans for the demolition of derelict cottages and the reconstruction of adjoining roadways at Dodder Bridge, Rathfarnham, Dublin; and, if so, if he will state the nature of the plans.

I have received no plans relating to the matters in question from the Dublin Corporation.

Is the Minister aware of any factor preventing the demolition of these cottages? Is he aware that there is a factory already there?

My information is to the effect that these cottages have not been used as dwellings for very many years but that a clothing company have used the premises for storage purposes and that, at some stage, an agreement was arrived at apparently between Dublin Corporation and these particular interests, and the company in question were to provide and find for themselves storage at another site. That, I understand, has not yet taken place but an effort is at present being made to get them moved out from there. Finally, if that effort is not successful and if an agreeable solution cannot be arranged, there are powers available to the Corporation to clear the site, under the derelict sites regulations or otherwise.

Is the Minister aware that these arrangements were made with the factory proprietor as far back as three years ago?

Yes. I think that is quite right.
