Vol. 184 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork Airport.

50.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power whether the very adverse weather conditions experienced in the Cork area have delayed constructional work at the Airport; and what steps will be taken to speed up the work so that the target date of opening will be met.

51.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power the date on which it is expected that services will commence at Cork Airport.

I propose with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle to take Questions Nos. 50 and 51 together.

Owing to the very adverse weather conditions experienced in the Cork area since work commenced at the Airport site last November it will not be possible to have the constructional work completed by the contract completion date of the end of July. I am having the position examined to see whether there are any measures that could be adopted to enable the Airport to become operational on a restricted basis with due regard to public safety. I hope to be able to make a definite statement at an early date.
