Vol. 184 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Houses for Childless Couples and Small Families.

74.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will sanction proposals from local authorities regarding the proposed erection of houses for childless couples and persons with small families.

Housing authorities have frequently been encouraged to adopt a policy of providing diversified accommodation to meet the requirements of the various types of households eligible to be rehoused. There is, therefore, no objection to the inclusion of appropriate provision for the types of households mentioned by the Deputy in schemes for the rehousing of persons having statutory priority therefor, namely, slum clearance cases. Where the needs of these priority categories have been met, proposals may be considered for housing other persons, including childless couples and persons with small families, who are eligible for and in need of local authority housing and not in a position to provide their own accommodation with the aid of housing grants and loans.
