I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to circulate in the Official Report a statement showing for a date in the middle of the months January— October, 1960, the number of persons on the live register at the Portarlington local office of the Department of Social Welfare. Since Portarlington is not an incorporated town it is not possible to state how many of these registrants resided in it. All claimants to Unemployment Benefit, applicants for Unemployment Assistance and other registrants on the live register must inter alia fulfil the requirement that “they are available for and unable to obtain suitable employment.”
