Vol. 184 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Amendment of Mental Treatment Act.

4.

asked the Minister for Health whether it is intended to amend the Mental Treatment Act, 1945; if so, what sections of this Act will be reviewed or amended; and if he will consider the inclusion of a section which will enable male nurses at various mental hospitals to avail of the pension rights provided by the 1945 Act in replacement of those in the 1909 Act, which they did not fully appreciate when they were given the option of retaining pension benefits under the 1909 Act or of accepting those provided by the 1945 Act.

A Bill to amend the Mental Treatment Acts was introduced in Dáil Éireann on the 13th July, 1960.

The text of the Bill will, I hope, be circulated to Deputies before the end of this session. The Bill will provide for an option subject to certain conditions.
