Vol. 184 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Declaration of Cavan as Attested Area.

30.

asked the Minister for Agriculture when County Cavan will be declared an attested area.

I am satisfied that with the full cooperation of farmers and veterinary practitioners the incidence of bovine tuberculosis in County Cavan can by the middle of next year be reduced to the level at which it will be possible for me to declare the county to be an attested area.

Did I understand the Minister to say "the middle of next June"?

The middle of next year.

The Minister may not be in existence at that time.

I shall, I hope, but no matter where I am I shall be quite a formidable proposition.

(Interruptions.)

God help the farmers depending on the Minister.

1956 is a year you will never forget.

The Minister should have the decency to resign. Not only did they break the cattle trade but they broke the country.

That was the year you could not pay your bills.

It would be a decent thing for the Minister to get out.

That was the year you could not meet your expenses, the year you had to fly and leave the problems behind you for us.

And you left them where they are for the past three years.

It would take some wings to make the Minister fly.

(Interruptions.)
