Vol. 184 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Houses without Electricity Supply.

36.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power how many dwelling houses in the State are without electricity supply; and what proportion this number bears to the total number of dwelling houses.

The information requested by the Deputy is not at present available but I am informed by the Central Statistics Office that an appropriate enquiry is being made in connection withe the 1961 Census of Population.

The best information at present available is that in 1946 there were 663,000 private dwellings in the State. This number included dwellings in flats, one-roomed apartments and residential business premises. At 31st March, 1960, 534,100 such dwellings had a supply of electricity, of which 224,000 were in rural areas.
