Fluorine bearing minerals are known to occur in small quantities at a number of localities in Ireland. Only in South Connemara and North Clare, however, have they been found in sufficient quantities to suggest that there is any possibility of their being exploited even on a small scale.
I understand that small quantities of fluorspar which is the principal commercial mineral source of fluorine were extracted by Mianrai Teoranta at Doolin, Co. Clare, in the period 1943-'47, and recently, under a State Mining Permission, at Kilweelran, near Ballyvaughan, Co. Clare.
