Vol. 184 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Industrial Development in South Galway.

44.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce how many proposals likely to lead to the establishment of industries in the constituency of South Galway are at present under consideration in his Department; and what progress has been made in regard to each proposal.

I am aware of four industrial proposals in relation to the area mentioned in the question. One of these relates to Portumna about which the Deputy has put down a separate question, and the Deputy will, no doubt, be aware of newspaper publicity about another proposal, which relates to Loughrea. Of the remaining two proposals I understand that one has reached a stage at which it is regarded as likely to come to fruition.

45.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether any proposals for the establishment of an industry in Portumna, County Galway, are under consideration by his Department; and, if so, what the position is in regard to the proposals.

I am informed that negotiations being conducted by the Industrial Development Authority for the establishment of an industry at Portumna are at an advanced stage. The Deputy will appreciate that in the case of projects promoted by private enterprise it is for the promoters to decide when it is appropriate to publish details of their project; I understand that the promoters of the present project intend to do this at an early date.
