I have received no request or proposal from the Committee on Procedure and Privileges to that effect.
Would the Taoiseach say if the business scheduled for today is completed we shall sit tomorrow?
I think so. There will be other business ordered. Of course, I shall consider any proposals made to me by the Committee.
I have a motion on the Order Paper of very grave importance and I would ask that the Government should give time to have it considered before the West Cork Railways close down. Córas Iompair Éireann have refused to receive a deputation and I am very concerned about the matter. Will the Taoiseach allow special time so that the motion may be moved?
It is quite possible that when the motion is proposed, we shall submit to the Chair that it is out of order.
I would put it to the Taoiseach that Deputy Wycherley is entitled to sympathetic consideration in this matter. It relates to the closing down of a railway and C.I.E. might conceivably have lifted the rails before this matter would be considered by the House which would, to say the least of it, give the whole matter an aura of irrevocability. Deputy Wycherley's motion is a matter of the gravest importance and I can quite understand his concern about it.
I am not prepared to accept that. I have pointed out that at the appropriate stage the Chair may be asked to consider if that motion is in order.
If the ruling should go against the Government and the motion is in order Deputy Wycherley is entitled to have it considered as a matter of urgency.
I am not prepared to give Government time.
Will the Taoiseach consider Deputy Wycherley's difficulty? If the rails are lifted it will militate against Deputy Wycherley's struggle here. I would invite the Taoiseach to give grave consideration to the motion.
