Vol. 184 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - North Dublin Traffic Limits.

28.

asked the Minister for Local Government when it is proposed to erect traffic lights at the intersection of Collins Avenue and Malahide Road, Dublin.

29.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether it is proposed to have traffic lights erected at the junction of Vernon Avenue and Howth Road, Dublin.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 28 and 29 together. There are no proposals before my Department for the provision of traffic lights at the junctions referred to by the Deputy. As I stated in reply to a similar question put down by Deputy O'Higgins on 3rd of this month, the provision of traffic lights in Dublin City is a matter for consideration in the first instance by the Dublin Corporation in consultation with the Commissioner of the Garda Síochána.

Is the Minister aware that the erection of traffic lights at the junction of Collins Avenue and Malahide Road was to get priority as far back as four years ago, and, as this is one of the most dangerous crossings on the north side of the city, there is grave anxiety on the part of local residents that traffic lights should be erected there?

I do not doubt the Deputy's viewpoint on this but it does not alter the situation as I have it here, that this is a matter in the first instance, for the Dublin Corporation, in consultation with the Commissioner of the Garda Síochána. If there is anything I can do to help, I shall certainly try to do it.
