It would not be practicable to make the arrangements suggested by the Deputy.
All members of the Army in the Congo when volunteering for external service were aware that the liability they were undertaking would extend beyond Christmas, and that unless the situation which necessitated the establishment of the United Nations Force should be resolved in the meantime, they were unlikely to be home before the 25th January, when that liability is due to expire.
