Vol. 185 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Drainage and Fencing Expenditure in Mayo.

32.

asked the Minister for Lands what amount of money was spent by the Land Commission on fences and drainage in the Killawalla area, County Mayo, from 1st March, 1960 to date.

I presume the Deputy is referring to the rearrangement proposals affecting 43 holdings on the Yelverton Estate, including the town-lands of Killavalley East and West.

The total of free grants sanctioned for fencing and drainage amounts to £4,398—of which approximately £1,140 has been expended, including £407 expended since the date in question.

Would the Minister reconcile the sum of £407 with the statement he made last spring that there would not be enough men to earn all the money he sanctioned for expenditure in Killawalla?

The Deputy should quote my statement and not twist it as he is wont to do.

There is no twisting of the statement. The Minister made it. He should not have made such a statement.
