Vol. 185 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Acquisition of North Kerry Lands.

51.

asked the Minister for Lands the lands in North Kerry which the Land Commission propose to acquire in the coming year for the relief of congestion.

Land Commission records are not compiled by reference to constituency areas. Moreover, the statutory obligations affecting the Land Commission, together with the legal rights of objection and appeal afforded to landowners, are but some of the many factors resulting in land acquisition being an unavoidably protracted business which frequently tends to follow the line of most, rather than least, resistance. In these circumstances, it is not possible to indicate what lands will be acquired during the coming year.

Perhaps it might meet the Deputy's requirements to know that, in Kerry, at present, proceedings are in progress for acquisition or resumption of 477 acres on 10 estates, and, in addition, negotiations are continuing for voluntary purchase of 5 properties comprising 617 acres.
