Vol. 185 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Supplies of Cosmetics: Restrictive Practices.

32.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he will ask the Fair Trade Commission to investigate certain restrictive practices in the cosmetic business whereby some reputable chemists are unable to obtain supplies of some brands of cosmetics.

The Fair Trade Commission conducted an investigation into the supply and distribution of proprietary and patent medicines, infant goods and medical and toilet preparations, and a report furnished by them was laid before both Houses of the Oireachtas in July, 1957. It is, of course, open to any person to make representations to the Fair Trade Commission about the operation of any trade practices that have come to light in the meantime and are alleged to be unfair or contrary to the public interest.
