Vol. 186 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Moneygall (Offaly) Gardaí.

10.

asked the Minister for Justice whether he is aware that there is grave local dissatisfaction with the proposal to reduce the strength of the Gardaí at Moneygall, County Offaly, from a Sergeant and three Gardaí to a Sergeant and one Garda; and whether he will have the proposal reconsidered.

Until the recent transfer of an unmarried Garda from Moneygall station the strength which had been maintained at the centre for a number of years was one Sergeant and two Gardaí.

Since the transfer was effected, arrangements have been made to allocate part of this sub-district to the adjoining sub-district of Cloughjordan and to transfer the control of Moneygall from Birr to Templemore district. These measures will provide for more effective control and economic administration without impairing police efficiency.
