Vol. 186 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Prices of Wheat and Feeding Barley.

13.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is yet in a position to give the price payable for next season's wheat to growers.

14.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he intends to fix a minimum rate for feeding barley; and, if so, if he will bear in mind the increasing overhead charges to farmers.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 13 and 14 together.

The prices for wheat and barley of the 1961 crop were announced on 7th February.

Would the Minister not agree that the statement of the position in the press indicates a decrease in the price of wheat?

He would not. The price of wheat has not been altered, unless below the 1958 bushelling mark.

Would the Minister not agree that the maximum price for high bushelling wheat last year was 72/6 per barrel and now, according to the statement I read, it will be 70/- per barrel?

It is the same as last year.

I do not think the Minister will agree that 72/6d. and 70/- are the same amount.

The Deputy had better read the statement again.

Question No. 15 postponed.
