asked the Minister for Finance the number of civil servants (excluding Gardaí, Army personnel and pensioners) for whom provision is made respectively in the years 1960-61 and 1961-62.

The numbers of Civil Servants for whom provision is made in the Estimates for the Public Services are 28,233 for 1960-61 and 28,627 for 1961-62. In compiling these figures Gardaí, Army personnel and pensioners have been excluded as requested by the Deputy, as well as certain other classes not employed in the Civil Service and also casual and industrial employees.

asked the Minister for Finance if there were any civil servants for whom provision was made in the Estimates for 1957-58 and 1960-61, respectively, whose remuneration will be carried in 1961-62 by a State sponsored body; and, if so, how many in each case.

The information sought, in so far as it can be foretold at this stage, is in the form of a tabular statement which, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I shall have circulated with the Official Report.

Following is the statement:—
