Vol. 187 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kerry Hydro-electric Scheme.

22.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power the position in regard to the development of the proposed Comeragh hydro-electric scheme near Waterville, County Kerry; whether the scheme has been abandoned; and, if not, if there is a possibility of its eventual development.

As the Deputy may have noticed, the last annual report of the Electricity Supply Board indicates that the development of significant water resources has now been virtually completed. The Board are nevertheless continuing their investigation of the possible later development of some further water power resources. I am informed by the E.S.B. that the Comeragh Scheme is not regarded as economic or practicable under present conditions.
