Disbursements under Part IIB of the Schedule to the 1937 Order and Parts B of the First and Second Schedules to the 1959 Regulations were made directly by my Department to the local returning officers who, in turn, paid those engaged for clerical work, counting of votes, etc. It is not possible to say with certainty from the information available to me what sums, if any, under these heads were paid to the deputy returning officers.
