asked the Minister for Education if he will now consider providing small open air swimming pools in each national school where space permits.

I do not feel that it would be feasible, for many reasons, to consider any such proposal. Apart from this it is my view that the provision of open air swimming pools is primarily a matter for the local authorities.

The Deputy obviously had in mind the health of the children. It has been considered that we are the most backward people in Europe as far as athletics and physical exercises in schools are concerned and surely that would be——

What is the question?

That physical exercise and athletics should be——

The Deputy is making a positive statement.

This all pertains to the health of the children so that they will go in for athletics instead of breaking things up. They have nothing to do but break windows.
