asked the Taoiseach if he will give the number of employed workers earning less than £10 per week in industry and commerce in the State for each of the years 1950-1959.
Written Answers. - Workers Earning less than £10 Per Week.
Particulars of the type requested are available only in respect of establishments covered by the annual Census of Industrial Production. The following statement sets out for the years 1950-1958 inclusive, the number of wage earners who were employed by these establishments and whose earnings in mid-October were less than £10 per week. Corresponding particulars for salaried workers are available only for the years 1950-1952 inclusive.
Because of a discontinuity in the records, following on the introduction in 1954 of a simplified form of return for the smaller establishments, it has been necessary to give two series of figures for wage earners. The first covers the years 1950-1953 inclusive and the second covers the years 1953-1958 inclusive. Particulars for 1959 are not yet available.
