Notes on the above Statement.
(1) The figures given for the year ended 31 March, 1961 are provisional.
(2) The figures shown for Excise are the receipts from the duty on tyres.
(3) The figures shown for Customs include receipts under the following duty headings:—Motor Cars, parts and accessories (Tariff Ref. No. 154), Accumulators (Tariff Ref. No. 1), Axles, Spring, etc. (Tariff Ref. No. 12/1), Number Plates (Tariff Ref. No. 161/2), Power-take-off units, etc. (Tariff Ref. No. 180/5), Sparking Plugs (Tariff Ref. No. 206), Sparking plug parts (Tariff Ref. No. 207/1), Coil springs (Tariff Ref. No. 228/1), Steam Cars (Tariff Ref. No. 234), Windscreens (Tariff Ref. No. 264/2). The receipts under some of these headings may include small amounts attributable to articles imported for use otherwise than on mechanically propelled vehicles but it is not feasible to segregate any such amounts. The bulk of the receipts for each year is derived from the first head, i.e., Tariff Ref. No. 154.
Statement (b).
The revenue from petrol is not separately recorded but is included under the heading "Mineral Hydrocarbon Light Oils." Approximately 99 per cent. of the receipts under this heading are, however, derived from petrol. The net receipts of Customs and Excise duties on Mineral Hydrocarbon Light Oils in the financial years 1950-51 to 1960-61 were as follows:—
