Vol. 189 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Schull Freezing Plant.

7.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he is aware that since the erection of the freezing plant in Schull, County Cork, little use has been made of it; and, if so, whether his Department will consider utilising it for some suitable industrial project.

I am aware of the position and understand that An Bord Iascaigh Mhara are about to advertise the plant inviting offers for a suitable letting.

These plants have been put where they are catching no fish.

What type of letting have the Board in mind? What would the Board consider a suitable letting?

I have no information on that, but I am sure the Board will try to let it to the best advantage.

Do I understand from the Minister that he did not trouble himself to get information as to the type of letting the Board have in mind for this plant? That is something that should not be allowed.

The Board have decided to advertise the lettering and presumably they will arrange the terms. It is a matter for An Bord Iascaigh Mhara primarily.

They put five or six of these plants in places where they catch no fish.

Deputy Flanagan put it there.

It was planned many years ago.

(Interruptions).

The Minister opened and closed a plant in Galway on the same day.

The Deputy should allow Questions to proceed.

That also was planned some years ago.
