Vol. 191 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - C.I.E. Diesel Locomotives.

15.

andMr. McQuillan asked the Minister for Transport and Power whether he has yet completed his investigation into the problems created by the recent purchase by Córas Iompair Éireann of fifteen diesel electric locomotives which, because of difficulties not foreseen by the purchasing commission, may not be driven, with due regard to public safety, in the normal cab rear position.

I have nothing to add to previous replies on this subject.

Will the Minister, or the Ceann Comhairle, state why this question was allowed on the Order Paper, seeing that other questions dealing with C.I.E. matters were disallowed by the Chair, with, I assume, the connivance of the Minister?

The Deputy is very wrong in assuming the Minister connived with the Ceann Comhairle in whom responsibility rests; the Ceann Comhairle can speak for himself in this matter.

Is the Minister aware that, when questions are addressed to him, they are disallowed by the Chair? It is almost impossible to raise matters relative to the administration of C.I.E. in this House. I cannot see why one Deputy's questions are allowed and another's disallowed.
