The numbers of merchandise licences issued otherwise than to authorised (merchandise carrying) companies in the years 1956-1961 (to date) are as follows:— 1 in 1956, 16 in 1957, 1 in 1958, 9 in 1959, 4 in 1960, and 2 in 1961 (to 10/7/1961). Of the total of 33 licences issued 18 were confined to the carriage of newspapers.
