Vol. 191 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Playing of Transistor Radios on Foreshore.

20.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he will take steps to prohibit the playing of transistor radios and other noisy instruments on the foreshore to the great annoyance of the general public.

I have not received any complaints about the playing of transistor radios or other instruments on the foreshore. Local Authorities have ample powers available to make bye-laws for the prevention of annoyance to persons using the seashore of which the foreshore is only a part. I am prepared to give my consent to the application to State-owned foreshore of any reasonable bye-laws made by local authorities on this matter.

It is a serious matter to ban anything on the foreshore. There are too many killjoys and old fogeys in this country. The typical foreshore is black——
