Vol. 191 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Use of Transistor and Portable Wireless Sets in Public Places.

38.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will take steps to prohibit or limit the use of transistor and other portable forms of wireless sets in public places with a view to abating the widespread public nuisance caused by such appliances.

The use of portable wireless sets is only one of a number of possible nuisances of the kind the Deputy has in mind which may be caused in public places. Others are the use of portable gramophones and record players in respect of which I have no function. The control and prevention of such nuisances is not a matter for me but for the authorities who are responsible for such places.
