Vol. 191 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Heating and Cleaning Grants for National Schools.

37.

asked the Minister for Education how heating and cleaning grants applicable to national schools are allocated; and if in view of their inadequacy, particularly for new schools, he will take steps to have these grants substantially increased.

The maximum grants payable by my Department towards the cost of heating and cleaning national schools are set out in a tabular statement which with your permission, a Cheann Chomhairle, I propose to circulate in the Official Report.

The grants are not intended to cover the total expenditure involved but to supplement the amounts provided from local sources.

I am satisfied that the present arrangement is satisfactory. The answer to the second part of the Deputy's question is therefore in the negative.
